Today, May 25th, is not only the unofficial first day of summer, ushering in Memorial Day Weekend, but also, National Wine Day. Celebrations are a must and what better way to kick off the summer than with a batch of refreshing sangria. Many sangrias are sweetened with loads of sugar, but we keep ours light with Diet Sprite. It may not be a traditional ingredient but we do have a method to our madness. Think about it, if you are enjoying your sangria while soaking up rays poolside (which we are) you want to be able to take off your cover up confidently and be confident that what you are rehydrating yourself with (or getting liquored up on) is allowing you to keep that cover up off, this weekend and the next. Sobering up and realizing you’ve ruined your diet the first weekend of summer? Not good. Let’s keep it clean people and sip skinny this weekend with our Summer Sangria.

Ingredients:

  • 6 ounces Pinot Noir
  • 1 ounce brandy
  • 1/2 cup sliced strawberries
  • 1/4 lime, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 orange, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 apple, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup club soda
  • 3/4 cup Diet Sprite

Directions:

  1. In chilled pitcher combine wine, brandy, and fruit.
  2. Refrigerate overnight.
  3. When ready to serve, add club soda and Diet Sprite, pour into glasses filled with ice and serve.

Want more? Up each fruit from 1/4 to 1/2… or throw the whole thing in. A little more wine, a little more diet sprite… a third and forth round for everyone is coming right up!
